PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
This history notes some of the achievements of the West
Kilbride Horticultural Society from its inception in 1869
and relates these to the present situation in 1997 - 1998.
Some things - indeed, possibly the majority - have changed
little over that long period; others have altered in keeping
with the movements of social change and the pattern of
life in the village.
The forthcoming 1998 Summer Flower show will be, to the
best of our judgement, the 103rd. held by the Society.
It is a pleasure to be able to continue to uphold a worthy
tradition which has brought us thus far. May we hope that
it will be carried on through the Millennium into the distant
future.
This history has been compiled by the 1997 Committee whose
membership is given on Page 46. Thanks are due to the many
friends whose memories have been jogged in the search for
information, and in particular to Mrs McCall and staff
of the Historical Records section of the North Ayrshire
Council Library at Ardrossan for access to press and other
records.
